COVID-19 Vaccines for Employees

School employees can be vaccinated

On Monday, March 8, 2021, access to three available COVID-19 vaccines (Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, and Johnson & Johnson) expanded in Georgia, to include all teachers and school district employees. In response, the school district coordinated with the Georgia Department of Public Health that ame month to provide three drive-thru clinics for employees who wished to be vaccinated.

Where can employees be vaccinated?

Employees have choices of multiple local and area providers who can provide the COVID-19 vaccine. 

Are Vaccines voluntary?

There are certain vaccines that are required by the national Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and the State of Georgia. Your local physician or the Bulloch County Health Department can provide you with these immunizations. 

For this reason and the reasons listed below, Bulloch County Schools will not require its employees or students to receive the COVID-19 vaccine:  

  • At this time the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Georgia Department of Public Health do not require adults or children to receive the COVID-19 vaccine for public health, nor for school attendance.
  • By state executive order on March 25, 2021, "individuals are not required by law or otherwise mandated to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, and an individual's COVID-19 vaccination records are private medical information."
  • Persons age 12 and older who wish to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, can contact their primary physician or local pharmacy, or review this list of locations in Bulloch County who provide the vaccine. Note: Fully vaccinated persons do not have to be quarantined due to exposure to a confirmed positive case unless they become symptomatic.
  • Employees do not have to provide proof that they have had a COVID-19 vaccine in order to work due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (for adults) and the state's March 25 Executive Order concerning COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Neither parents, guardians, nor students have to provide proof that a student had a COVID-19 vaccine due to the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (for students)and  the state's March 25 Executive Order concerning COVID-19 vaccines.
  • School district employees may not ask if an adult or child has received the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • The school district may not require documentation that a person has received the vaccine.  However, for students, school nurses, as medical professionals, are authorized users of the State of Georgia’s Registry of Immunization Transactions and Services, and they can access this information as a tool for COVID-19 contact tracing with students only to determine appropriate action.
