Applying for the Virtual Program

Application Submission

A link to an electronic application will be placed on the district’s website at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.  In order to be included in the Virtual Program lottery drawing, all applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. 

Parents who submitted an interest survey earlier this year must still apply for the Virtual Program.

Note: High school students intending to be fully enrolled in dual enrollment classes (no classes taken at high school) should not submit a virtual program application.

Priority Applications: Children of Virtual Program Employees

Children of full-time employees of the Bulloch County Schools Virtual Program shall receive priority placement in advance of the lottery drawing.

Priority Applications: Hardships

Parents will be asked within the application if there is a hardship related to the compromised health of the student or a member of the student’s immediate household.  In the event that the district receives more applications than seats available, the district will temporarily “set aside” the number of hardship seats and reduce the number of students drawn during the lottery accordingly.  Any parents with stated hardships who are not drawn for the program (drawn for waiting list) will be provided a form on which a physician can document the hardship. This must be returned to the district within 30 days in order for the student to be placed in one of the “set aside” seats for hardships.  Failure to provide documentation will result in the student maintaining their position on the waiting list.  After 30 days, the “set aside” seats will be filled from the waiting list in the order drawn.  Applications received after the deadline will be placed on the waiting list in the order received.

Students with Disabilities

Students with disabilities shall follow the same application process, as shown above.  Parents of students with disabilities should discuss their student’s unique needs with the student’s special education case manager to determine if virtual learning is in the best interest of the individual student based on the nature of the disability and any healthcare concerns. This may inform the parent’s decision on whether or not to apply, but Virtual Learning program placement shall not be a placement decision of an Individualized Education Program team.

Lottery Drawing

In the event that more applications are received than spaces available in the program, lottery drawings will be conducted via a live stream event on Friday, May 7, 2021.  Those not selected for the Virtual Program will be placed on the waiting list in the order drawn. 

Withdrawal of Virtual Program Application

Parents may withdraw their child’s application for the Virtual Program through Friday, July 30, 2021.  Parents may withdraw the application by calling or e-mailing the Virtual Program Registrar.  Parents withdrawing their application after Friday, July 23rd should be aware that late notice of withdrawal of a virtual program application may lead to a delay in the student beginning in the face-to-face school, as time will be needed to prepare a schedule.

A parent withdrawing from the program will give up their child’s seat in the program to the next student on the waiting list. If a parent wishes to later re-apply for the program, they will need to submit a new application and will go to the bottom of the waiting list.
