Winter Storm Enzo Updates
January 23, 2025, 11 AM Update
Bulloch County Schools will remain closed on Friday, as road conditions remain uncertain and may not be safe for bus travel or student drivers.
"Keeping schools closed on Friday will keep everyone safe and allow conditions to improve over the weekend," said Superintendent Charles Wilson. "I am not comfortable with the risks involved or the issues it may likely cause for everyone if schools reopened," said Superintendent Charles Wilson.
The school district plans to return to normal operations on Monday. At this time, no decision has been made about potential make-up days.
The public is still encouraged to avoid roadways if possible. Stay safe.
January 22, 2025, 12 Noon Update
Bulloch County Schools will continue to be closed on Thursday, January 23 for students and employees. After conversations with local law enforcement and public safety leaders, hazardous road conditions caused by Winter Storm Enzo still exist and temperatures are expected to remain below freezing. Citizens are encouraged to stay off roadways if possible. A decision regarding school operations for Friday will be announced by 2 p.m. on Thursday. Additionally, the Bulloch County Board of Education’s work session, which was originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, will be rescheduled.
January 20, 2025, 2 p.m. Update
Bulloch County Schools will be open Tuesday, January 21, for a normal schedule, but the district will be closed on Wednesday, January 22. After school and extracurricular activities are cancelled for both days.
This decision is based on the most accurate weather forecasts available which predict severe winter weather to impact our area beginning late Tuesday through Wednesday morning.
The school district will continue to monitor weather updates closely, so remain alert for further communications or schedule changes. If weather conditions change, the possibility of an early release on Tuesday exists. Should that occur, please know that all children will still be served lunch.
A decision about school operations for Thursday, January 23, will be made by 2 p.m. on Wednesday. No decision has been made yet regarding any potential make-up days, but April 7-8 were designated and communicated as possible make-up days with the 2024/2025 calendar and could be activated if needed.

January 17, 2025, 3 p.m. Update
Bulloch County Schools is monitoring official weather sources and preparing for the possibility of severe winter weather next week.
The district is also maintaining contact with the Bulloch County Emergency Management Agency. The school district will make a final decision by 5 p.m. on Monday, January 20, regarding any necessary changes to the school schedule for Tuesday and the rest of the week.
Any changes to the school district’s operations will be communicated to families via the district's mass messaging systems using telephone, email and text messages, plus social media and local media.

Remain alert and make plans for your family now in case there are any disruptions to the school schedule.

- If you are housing displaced or live in a home with compromised utilities and need temporary shelter from the winter weather, Pittman Park United Methodist Church will be opening a warming shelter in its social hall, if the weather makes in necessary,beginning at 5 p.m. on Monday and throughout the storm.
