Research Request Protocol

Bulloch County Schools recognizes that systematic study of the educational process can contribute significantly to the development and implementation of high-quality instructional programs. While recognizing the value of educational research, the district also has a responsibility to protect students, parents, and staff from invasion of privacy and substantial distraction from teaching and learning.


Important: IRB Approval Required Prior to Submission

Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval is required BEFORE submitting a research request to Bulloch County Schools.

Research applications will not be accepted, reviewed, or held for consideration unless the applicant has secured full IRB approval at the time of submission.

  • Applications submitted with “pending,” “in progress,” or anticipated IRB approval will not be reviewed.
  • The RRC does not provide provisional, conditional, or place-holding reviews.
  • Applicants must upload official documentation showing full IRB approval when completing the Research Request Form.

Applicants are encouraged to plan accordingly to ensure IRB approval is secured prior to the district’s designated submission windows. Use this helpful checklist to help you prepare.


Proposal Requirements

In order for a research proposal to be considered for review, the proposed research must:

  • Demonstrate clear benefit to students
  • Include official IRB approval documentation
  • Include all applicable research materials, such as:
    • Consent/assent forms
    • Survey instruments
    • Interview questions
    • Focus group protocols
    • Required procedures
    • Pre/post assessments
    • Observation tools
  • Ensure minimal disruption to classroom instruction and/or teacher planning time
  • Assure privacy and confidentiality for students, parents, and staff
  • Support Bulloch County Schools initiatives
  • Align with:

 

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.


Submission Windows:

Fall Semester Window:

  • Research applications for Fall Semester must be completed and submitted during this window.

  • July 15 to September 15

Spring Semester Window:

  • Research applications for Spring Semester must be completed and submitted during this window.

  • November 15th - December 5th; January 2nd - February 15th


Submission Process

If you are interested in conducting research within Bulloch County Schools:

  1. Secure full IRB approval.
  2. Gather all required documentation and research instruments.
  3. Complete the Bulloch County Schools Research Request Application Form.
  4. Submit during an active submission window.

Please submit your request before calling. Jeff Giddens (email), handles all research requests for the district and will contact applicants after submission. The Bulloch County Schools Research Request Team will review and respond all applications submitted within the designated submission windows.
