Research Request Protocol

Institutional Review Board approval is required before you submit a research request to Bulloch County Schools. Research applications will not be accepted, reviewed, or held for consideration unless the applicant has secured full Institutional Review Board approval at the time of submission.

• Applications submitted with “pending,” “in progress,” or anticipated approval will not be reviewed.
• The Research Request Form does not provide provisional, conditional, or place-holding reviews.
• Applicants must upload official documentation showing full approval when completing the Research Request Form.

Applicants are encouraged to plan accordingly to ensure approval is secured prior to the district’s designated submission windows. Use this helpful checklist to help you prepare.

In order for a research proposal to be considered for review, the proposed research must:

• Demonstrate clear benefit to students
• Include official Institutional Review Board approval documentation
• Include all applicable research materials, such as:
  • Consent/assent forms
  • Survey instruments
  • Interview questions
  • Focus group protocols
  • Required procedures
  • Pre/post assessments
  • Observation tools
• Ensure minimal disruption to classroom instruction and/or teacher planning time
• Assure privacy and confidentiality for students, parents, and staff
• Support Bulloch County Schools initiatives
• Align with:
  • The Bulloch County Schools District Strategic Plan
  • The School Improvement Plan(s) of participating schools
  • State and county curriculum

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

• Fall Semester Window:
  • Research applications for Fall Semester must be completed and submitted during this window.
  • July 15 to September 15
• Spring Semester Window:
  • Research applications for Spring Semester must be completed and submitted during this window.
  • November 15 to December 5; January 2 to February 15

If you are interested in conducting research within Bulloch County Schools:

1. Secure full Institutional Review Board approval first.
2. Gather all required documentation and research instruments.
3. Complete the Bulloch County Schools Research Request Application Form.
4. Submit during an active submission window.

Please submit your request before calling. Dawn Tysinger, PhD, handles all research requests for the school district and will contact applicants after submission. The Bulloch County Schools Research Request Team will review and respond all applications submitted within the designated submission windows.
