The Bulloch County Board of Education is the governing body of the Bulloch County School System, known as Bulloch County Schools. Bulloch County Schools is the local education agency for K-12 public education in Bulloch County. The primary role of the elected Board of Education is the legislation of the school system policies, which are executed under the direction of the school superintendent. The Board operates under a Code of Ethics. The Board conducts all of its meetings in accordance with Georgia's Open Records Act.
- Regular & Work Session Board Meetings - The Bulloch County Board of Education meets twice each month, usually on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The official annual schedule of meetings is adopted by the Board each January during its annual Organizational Meeting. Once adopted, by law the Board may only change one Regular Session date for the year. Work Session meetings may be changed or cancelled at will. All meetings start at 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise announced. Regular session, work session and special session meetings will be held in the board room of the Central Office located at 150 Williams Road, in Statesboro, unless otherwise announced. Meeting dates, times, and places are subject to change with advanced notice. The Board meeting dates for the year are published annually on this website, the Bulloch County Guide, the Bulloch County Schools Student Handbook, and for two weeks in January in the county's legal organ, The Statesboro Herald, immediately following the Board's annual Organizational Meeting. Citizens and the media may request to be added to an e-mail list to receive meeting notifications. To be added to this list, please contact
Mary Henley at 912.212-8505.
- Special Board Meetings (Called Mtgs.) - Special Board meetings may be called in accordance with the requirements of state law by the Board chairman on the request of three or more Board members or on the request of the Superintendent. Notice of all special meetings is given to the members of the Board at least 24 hours prior to the time stated for the meeting to convene. The notice will also indicate the purpose of the special meeting. It is the policy of the Board to announce in advance, whenever practical, through the newspapers, district website, social media and such other means as may appear appropriate, the date, time, and place of all special meetings and the major topic(s) to be discussed.
- Collaboration Sessions (New) - To mirror the district faculty's use of professional learning communities (PLCs) for collaboration and planning, the Board began in March 2017, meeting once a month in small, non-quorum groups of three to four to talk about potential items to place on Board meeting agendas. During the school year, the meetings are held at a school campus. This also gives the Board members an opportunity to visit informally with faculty and staff at the school. The groups of three to four members rotate, so that the groups are different. The Board does not conduct official business at these sessions. No policy or public matters of the Board are formulated, presented, discussed, or voted upon. No action is taken and the sessions are in a public place at either a school or local restaurant.
