Special Education Services

The Department of Special Education Services supports the individualized education programs of students ages 3 to 21, who are eligible for special education and related services within the school district. Special education services are provided on a continuum from the least restrictive to more restrictive environments based on student need.

The basic special education process begins with a multi-tiered system of supports, where students receive increasing levels of targeted interventions. If a student does not make adequate progress, a formal evaluation is conducted to determine eligibility for special education services. Operating within the continuum of services integrated into the general education curriculum, special education ensures that every child with a disability has the opportunity to receive a quality education that aligns with their unique needs.

The Special Education Services Department works collaboratively with students, schools, families, and the community to increase student achievement and to promote post-secondary success for all students with disabilities. The department focuses on a range of areas, including behavioral, instructional, curricular, environmental, and specialized preschool interventions.
