Special Education Services
The Department of Special Education Services supports the individualized education programs of students ages 3 to 21, who are eligible for special education and related services within the school district. Special education services are provided on a continuum from the least restrictive to more restrictive environments based on student need.
We work collaboratively with students, schools, families, and the community to increase student achievement and to promote post-secondary success for all students with disabilities. The department focuses on a range of areas, including behavioral, instructional, curricular, environmental, and specialized preschool interventions.
The basic special education process begins with a multi-tiered system of supports, where students receive increasing levels of targeted interventions. If a student does not make adequate progress, a formal evaluation is conducted to determine eligibility for special education services. Operating within the continuum of services integrated into the general education curriculum, special education ensures that every child with a disability has the opportunity to receive a quality education that aligns with their unique needs.
