Title I Services

Title I, Part A is funded by the federal government under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The purpose of Title I under the ESSA is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. While the ESSA has many requirements, there is a strong focus throughout the law on parent and family engagement notification and involvement, particularly as it relates to the following:

  • Ensuring that high-quality academic assessments, accountability systems, teacher preparation and training, curriculum, and instructional materials are aligned with challenging state academic standards so that students, teachers, parents and administrators can measure progress against common expectations for student academic achievement.
  • Affording parents substantial and meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children.

School-Wide Program

A school-wide program is a comprehensive reform strategy designed to upgrade the entire educational program in a Title I school.  The primary goal of school-wide programs is to ensure that all students, particularly those who are low-achieving, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement on state academic achievement standards.  This school-wide reform strategy requires that a school:

  • Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment;
  • Identify and commit to specific goals and strategies that address those needs; 
  • Create a comprehensive plan; and
  • Conduct annual evaluation of school-wide program’s effectiveness and revise plan as necessary.

Adopting this strategy should result in an ongoing, comprehensive plan for school improvement that is owned by the entire school community and tailored to its unique needs.

Parents Right-To-Know

In compliance with the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), parents may request the following information:

  • Whether the student's teacher
    • has met state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;
    • is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; and
    • is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher.
  • Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

If you wish to request information about a teacher's or a paraprofessional's qualifications, please contact the principal at your child's school.
