Speak Up for Education Advertisement

BOE hosts annual listening & learning forum for Community


The Bulloch County Board of Education will host its annual listening and learning forum, Speak Up for Education on Thursday, March 29, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at Statesboro High School. The event is for school councils, parents and anyone in the community interested in K-12 public education. Doors open at 5:30 for registration and a free pizza supper for families. The event’s session begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. For anyone who needs free childcare, translation services or special accommodations to attend, please contact 912.212.8513.


New Format

This year Speak Up for Education has a new format. In addition to Superintendent Charles Wilson hosting listening sessions to hear parent’s questions and concerns, the event will focus on equipping and encouraging parents and the community to volunteer in local schools and tips to help children be more successful in school. There will also be a family resource area featuring information from key education support organizations.  


Learning & Learning Sessions

The main sessions will begin at 6:00 p.m. Guests will choose up to three sessions to attend. Topics include the following: 

• Volunteer: How to become a school volunteer or student mentor 

• Literacy: How to ensure your child reads on grade level to learn

• Kindergarten 101: Skills your child needs to know before day one 

• Middle School 101: How to help your child be successful

• High School 101: How to ensure your teen is college & career ready

• Family Engagement: Be involved & have a voice in your school

• Superintendent’s Listening Session: Share questions and concerns with superintendent.


Meeting Agenda

• 5:30 - 6:00       Doors open; Registration & Pizza Supper 

                           Enter main entrance or auditorium entrance.

                           Meal served in cafeteria.

• 6:00—6:10       Welcome & Announcements (SHS Cafeteria)

• 6:20—6:50       Session 1 

• 6:55—7:25       Session 2      

• 7:30—8:00       Session 3


Childcare Services

Parents and community members, who attend Speak Up for Education can request free, on-site childcare during the event. The school system’s family liaisons coordinate this service for children ages birth to 12 years old. Please contact Amanda McQuaig at 912-212-8513 or email amcquaig@bullochschools.org by March 26, to register your child.


The school system’s family liaisons will provide safe supervision, homework assistance, activities, games a pizza supper, and snacks for children.  For infants please provide all supplies they may need (i.e. bottles, diapers). At the event, an area is provided to securely sign children in and out. 


Translation Services & Special Accommodations Available 

Language translation services and American with Disabilities Act accommodations are available by request to best facilitate participation. Please contact Amanda McQuaig at 912.212.8513 or amcquaig@bullochschools.org by Monday, March 26 to request assistance.
