Pre-K Program Registration

Pre-Kindergarten Program Registration

Pre-Kindergarten Registration Advertisement

Pre-Kindergarten registration for the 2018-2019 school year was March 1 - March 9, 2018. You may contact our Pre-Kindergarten Director Dr. Yvette Ledford or Jennifer Agnew or call 912.212.8558 or or 912.212.8570 to inquire about our upcoming lottery drawings and waiting lists or availability at sites outside your zoned school or at local private Pre-K centers.

Only a child’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s) may register him/her for pre-k. You do not have to bring your child to registration. For complete information, about child eligibility, how to register, required documents, and lottery dates, see our Pre-Kindergarten Registration Flyer available in English and Spanish (en Espanol) .

How to Register & Required Documents

Bulloch County Schools will host its annual Pre-Kindergarten Registration March 1 - March 9.  Parents and guardians may visit their child's zoned school to obtain a registration packet during this time. Only a parent or legal guardian may register a child for pre-k. You do not have to bring your child to registration.

Who May Attend a Pre-Kindergarten Site at a Public School ?
All children in the United States are entitled to equal access to a basic public elementary and secondary education regardless of their actual or perceived race, color, national origin, citizenship, immigration status, or the status of their parents/guardians. School districts that prohibit, discourage, or maintain policies that have the effect of prohibiting or discouraging children from enrolling in schools because they or their parents/guardians are not U.S. citizens or are undocumented may be in violation of Federal law.

Number of Pre-Kindergarten Sites & Spaces
The Georgia Department of Early Learning (also known as Bright from the Start) administers Georgia Pre-K and Bulloch County Schools hosts Pre-K sites on each of our elementary and high school campuses. Unlike grades K-12 for which we accommodate each child in Bulloch County who registers for school, Pre-Kindergarten is an optional program and the Georgia Department of Early Learning decides and approves how many sites our school system can host. This does limit the number of children we can register, but we do provide a lottery drawing, a waiting list for our sites, and we provide lists of other Pre-K sites in the community.

Bulloch County Schools has 19 pre-k sites with 22 children each for a total of 416 available seats. For this reason, demand may exceed space, so it is important to register during March 1 - March 9. Even if you feel a Pre-K site will fill up, please complete a registration packet, and if necessary, ask to be placed on the waiting list or ask about other sites we have both in and out of your school zone.  Waiting lists help us show demand for the program and could lead to additional sites being granted to the school system.

Who May Register a Child to Attend a Public School in Bulloch County?
Because Bulloch County Schools is a public school system for children who reside in Bulloch County, no individual who resides outside the boundaries of Bulloch County may be registered to attend its schools. An exception applies only to children of full-time employees of Bulloch County Schools.  Children who live in Bulloch County may attend a school located within the school attendance zone in which they reside or a school within another attendance zone if a School Choice/School Transfer Form and request is granted in accordance with Bulloch County Board of Education policy.

Which Bulloch County Schools Pre-Kindergarten Site May My Child Attend?
A child must be registered at the school for which he/she is zoned to attend.  School attendance zones are based on the full-time residency address of the child.

Eligibility for Bulloch County Schools’ Pre-K Program
To be eligible for Bulloch County Schools’ Pre-K program, a child must be four-years-old on or by September 1, 2018, and the child’s parent or guardian must either be a resident of Bulloch County or a full-time employee of the school system. Children who are 5-years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2018, who have not attended a GA Pre-K for more than 30 days, are also eligible for Pre-K unless you prefer your child to go to Kindergarten. Kindergarten Registration will be April 30 – May 4.

Don’t Wait – Register March 1 – March 9
Register during the designated time of March 1 – March 9. The number of children eligible for Pre-K fluctuates each year. Sites that do not have enough students could risk closure, and the school system does consider out-of-zone registrations for parents who are willing to provide their own transportation. For these reasons, it is best not to miss the designated registration week. Please do not wait to register and assume a site will have enough space for your child...

Multiple Pre-K Sites
There are multiple pre-k sites within some school zones, so remember you may have other options if one site fills up. Also, if you are willing to provide transportation for your child, you may consider one of our sites that is not in your school zone. Out-of-Zone Pre-Kindergarten Forms are available by request from your zoned school. If a child attends an out-of-zone pre-kindergarten site, the child will then attend kindergarten at his/her zoned school unless a House Bill 251 School Choice/School Transfer Request has been requested and approved by the district.
